The problem

The CQC faces significant inspection backlogs. Across England, the average official care home rating is nearly four years old. In some counties it is closer to five.

That gap creates two distinct commercial problems for operators.

If your rating no longer reflects your standards, you are losing enquiries, placements and recruitment candidates to data that belongs to a different chapter of your home's history.

If your rating has not been refreshed since standards slipped, families and commissioners have no reliable way of knowing.

Either way, the rating families see is not the care being delivered today.

A glimpse of the findings

The research reveals a significant awareness gap among the families making decisions about your home right now.

  • 89% of families consider real-time care data essential when choosing a home. Not helpful, not preferable but essential.

  • More than eight in ten adults in the 55 to 64 age group, your most likely enquiry demographic, are uncomfortable signing a care contract based on a rating that is more than three years old.

  • 59% of families rule out a home rated Requires Improvement regardless of when that rating was earned.

  • The full report goes significantly further, mapping the commercial implications of these findings county by county and setting out what operators in the highest-fee markets are most exposed to.
